Bodegas Balbas

Bodegas Balbás' is located in La Horra, the “Golden Diamond” of Ribera del Duero. The winery's history goes back to 1777, and today it's run by Juan José Balbás. Bodegas Balbás was one of the pioneering wineries that helped to set up the Ribera del Duero appellation in 1982. Juan José’s daughter Patricia is also heavily involved in the winery, making Bodegas Balbás a seventh generation winery.

Bodegas Balbás has 10 different parcels (102 hectares), with very old vines of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Some of the vines grow at an altitude of 940 m. The winemaker, Pedro de la Fuente, has been working at the winery for over 25 years. Bodegas Balbás age their wines in French and American oak, and ensure that each barrel they order is made to their particular specifications.
