History

In 1979, Costas Laziridis established his first vineyard in Xiropotamos, a village on the slopes of Mount Falakro, in the Drama region of Macedonia, and a state-of-the-art winery soon followed. Beginning with 8.5 hectares of vineyards, the winery is now cultivating 300 hectares of the best Greek and International grape varieties. The vineyards are located in four different locations around Drama; in Adriani, in Kali Vrysi, in Katafyto and in Platania. Each of these has its own unique characteristics, and the winery uses these differing microclimates and terroirs to get the maximum potential out of their grapes. The vines are certified according to the system of the Integrated Handling “Agro 2-1/2-2”.

Philosophy

"Great wines are born in the vineyards" - this philosophy has been at the heart of Domaine Costa Lazaridi since day one. They blend innovation with a deep respect for nature,  with the goal of capturing the unique character of the vintage and vineyard in each bottle, reflecting their unwavering commitment to quality and terroir.

Today, the torch is being passed to the next generation. George and Gerasimos, the twin sons of founders Costas and Julia Lazaridi, practically grew up among the vines and barrels. Their lifelong immersion in the family business ensures that the legacy of excellence will continue to thrive.

At Domaine Costa Lazaridi, every label tells a story - one of passion, expertise, and a relentless pursuit of exceptional wines.

The Vineyards

Drama
In ancient times, Drama was part of a wider region called the Land of Idones and, according to archaeological research, it was an important centre of Dionysian worship. There is also evidence of vine presence dating back to the 4th millennium BC - the oldest reference of vinification in Europe. Therefore, it is not hard to understand the importance of vine cultivation in the region.

Costa Lazaridi currently harvest the following vineyard plots:

  • Adriani: 70 hectares, on a hillside with northern exposure, altitude of 150-200 meters, mainly clay and sandy soil.

  • Kali Vrysi: 120 hectares, 200-300 meters of altitude, mainly rocky soil.

  • Katafyto: 50 hectares, sandy rocky soil, on the slopes of Mount Orvilos, cultivated with varieties that are fond of cooler conditions, 800-900 meters of altitude.

  • Platania: 40 hectares, 350-450 meters of altitude, mainly rocky soil.
